History of fireplace and its types

The history of use of fire is as old as history of man itself. The advancement of multi-storey buildings has relegated the fireplaces to outside the wall. Usage of wood to heat the homes dates back to 17th century when Abraham Darby found that iron can be used to produce heat in a cost efficient way. In the Victorian age fire places have become very popular when elegant fireplaces were made. The homes were made with traditional and comfortable environment. With the development of technology new house and fireplace designs are evolved continuously. Fashionable fireplaces offer sand casting systems. Still there are a lot of opportunities in the field of fire place technology for creation of superior designs.

The fireplaces are made of two important components viz., surround and insert. The surround part is composed of mantle and sides, made of granite, wood, iron or marble fireplace. The fire is burned in the insert part of fireplace. The insert is made of cast iron and adorned with colorful tiles in various designs.

Different kinds of fireplaces like gas fireplace, electric fireplace and stone fireplace are used to decorate the home.
