History of Optimal Data Storage- DVD Software

The first popular optical data storage system was introduced in 1982, although research for these systems has been going on for decades. The compact disc was the most reognizable launch and was the most widely used media storage device until the launch of the DVD.

The DVD (Digital Video Disc) has been the mass market leader ever since its development. The DVD was initially launched for video in 1996, and then re-launched for video and for audio in later years. DVD’s are the mainstream way to launch movie videos into the consumer marketplace. DVD’s have since been launched as recordable, offering multiple choices such as the DVD-R and the DVD+R. The DVD-R was launched in 1997 and the DVD+R was launched in 2002. DVD-R is most commonly used for DVD recorders and players at home and most of the newer DVD players have been formatted to work with dual recording devices, compatible with many of the DVD formats. These new develpments have made it possible for DVD copy and audio recording with the simple installation of DVD copy software.

There are continuous improvements within this field of technology and with the recent development of HD (high definintion) televisons and broadband technology, the newer DVD devices are HD DVD and Blu-ray were launched in 2007 to be compatible. These systems have not yet become mainstream for storage and copying in the consumer market, but it is likely the next technological development to expect in the new year.
